In december 2002, a french astrophysicist, François Querci from l'Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées, Toulouse, France, has visited Lebanon to convince the concerned people at the lebanese CNRS about the need to establish a national Observatory that will be a part of some "network" called the "Network of Oriental Robotic Telescopes" known as NORT. NORT consists of building a network of observatories in the arab world and in the north african countries in a goal to revive science in the region and help its research. This will maintain a good cooperation between such countries in this field, and also cooperation with the astronomical societies and agencies around the world. Lebanon will take part of NORT, and in case of an agreement about building this observatory in steps, the first one will consist on finding the best location due to studies on light pollution, atmospheric interferences and many inconvenients.
The project demands somekind of a "link" between the telescpes in the region, so they can act as a big and much better Telescope. The staff of this observatory will be composed of professional astronomers like Dr. Jamal Bittar from USJ and Dr. Roger Hajjar from NDU, in addition to some advanced amateur astronomers. The daily work

will consist of analyzing data received from space and also study pollution in the air. Dr. Roger Hajjar hopes the observatory to be ready in two years in case the project is accepted in june 2003.
